Former DFAT Australia-China Council scholar Andrew Phelan says Australians need to “hold tight for a little while” before things can bounce back to normal within the economy.
It comes as Qantas and Jetstar have slashed their capacity across their entire network.
Domestic flights have been reduced by 75 per cent of pre coronavirus levels, with international routes falling to 20 per cent.
“I think what we need to do…is hold tight for a little while,” Mr Phelan told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“And then things will bounce back very quickly.
“Just hang tight for a little bit more, and we’ll get through this very soon, and people will start buying plane tickets again.”
